Product Information

Are your antiperspirants safe?

You may have seen stories in the media or online suggesting a link between antiperspirants and breast cancer. Cancer is a complex issue and there is no evidence to suggest that one single factor is responsible for causing the disease.

A large number of scientific studies have investigated cancer risk factors, however there is no reliable evidence to suggest that the use of underarm deodorants or antiperspirants containing parabens or aluminium are two of these factors.

This has been confirmed by national cancer charities and other authorities (including Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Cancer Research UK) who regard these false allegations as detracting from the search for the true causative factors or as diverting attention away from taking action on those factors known to be associated with a risk of breast cancer.

How can your products be 100% perfume and colour free - some contain known fragrance like Lavender?

All natural odours come from essential oils, which are in the products for additional skincare benefits. None of our products contain synthetic fragrances.

Find out more about our ingredients.

Do you have any active ingredients in your products?

We have active ingredients in many of our products, they have only been included for their performance tested intrinsic benefits and are all naturally derived.

What does it mean if a product has been Dermatologically Approved?

This offers extra reassurance that products have undergone the same, or even more stringent, tests than dermatologically-tested products.

Our products are examined at an independent testing house and the results are validated by an independent dermatologist to verify that they are safe to use.

What does hypoallergenic mean?

There is no industry standard definition for hypoallergenic; Simple Skincare products claiming hypoallergenic properties have been tested via HRIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test) by an independent testing house

Most products in the UK are suitable for sensitive skin and surely the safest are organic.

How can I be certain your products are the gentlest?

Most brands have variants that are suitable for sensitive skin, however they still contain the two most common irritants to the skin; perfume and colour.

Organic products are not about safety or mildness; organic refers to the source of ingredients.
Simple Skincare products have no perfume or colour and have been extensively tested to minimise irritation to the skin.

Any plans to remove the foaming ingredients in the face wash products?

We do not have any plans to remove the foaming ingredient from our face wash products.

How long has Simple Skincare been manufacturing products?

Our very first product was launched in 1960.

Are the wipes biodegradable? Will they be?

They are currently not biodegradable, however it is something we are planning to change in the near future.

Are none of your products natural as they contain known 'nasties' such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate?

Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS) is a detergent used in many cosmetic products for its cleansing properties. Some Simple Skincare products contain small quantities of this ingredient and rigorous consumer testing shows it is perfectly safe for sensitive skin, causing no long-term irritation or risk.

How long can I keep my Moisturising Foaming Facial Wash once it's opened?

Our Moisturising Foaming Facial Wash can be kept opened for 24 months before it should be discarded. There is now a symbol on the back of pack (PAO – period after opening) which looks like a jar with an opened lid, this tells you how long you can keep an opened product. It is important that the product is stored with the cap firmly screwed on.

If you have any problems determining this, you can contact our Simple Skincare consumer relations team.

Why don't you include any advanced technology such as AHAs/Liposomes etc?

Simple Skincare products only include advanced technology which has a proven safety profile and which minimises irritation to the skin.

You use Parabens in your products, what's the story behind recent press reports stating they cause cancer?

Parabens are a class of substances widely used as preservatives to prevent product deterioration. Scientific studies have demonstrated that low levels of Parabens are safe both for human health and in the environment.

Skin Type

Are there any products that I can use to control oil and help reduce my pores?

If you have oily skin, use a wash such as Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash rather than a cream cleanser. Follow with Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner to purify the skin and remove any last traces of make-up and dirt.

Finally, moisturise with a light, oil-free moisturiser – Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser, for instance. Taking care of your oily skin and using the correct products will help your skin look fresh, clean and healthy whilst also helping to reduce pore size.

I have dry skin, which skincare products are most suitable?

Firstly for cleansing, people with dry skin should use cream cleansers, such as Kind to Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion, or a wash alternative like Kind to Skin Moisturising Foaming Facial Wash. Then tone your skin using Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner.

When choosing a moisturiser, make sure you pick a rich one, such as Kind to Skin Vital Vitamin Night Cream.

What's the best moisturiser for oily skin?

Even if you have oily skin, it’s still important to use a moisturiser, as skin still needs to be hydrated. Make sure you use an oil-free moisturiser, such as Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser.

Why do I keep getting breakouts?

Sebum, a substance that sits around in your pores, is ideal food for bacteria normally present in and on your skin – icky, but true. Pores become blocked with debris and the bacteria multiply, setting the scene for nasty blackheads, whiteheads and spots.

Try regular cleansing and using products that contain an anti-bacterial ingredient to combat the problem, such as Clear Skin range.

I can't figure out my skin type, sometimes it's oily in places, then other times, it's dry. Why can't it make up its mind?

You have got combination skin. This skin type is usually oily across the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) but with dry patches on the cheeks.

To care for your skin, make sure you cleanse twice a day using a wash cleanser such as Kind to Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel, Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner, then apply Hydrating Light Moisturiser on your cheeks and Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser across your T-zone.

Why do some cleansers make my skin feel dry?

Traditional soaps and cleansers for oily skin use harsh ingredients to strip away your natural oils. Your skin defends itself against this dryness by producing even more oil, creating a vicious cycle. Instead, try a mild wash to rinse away dirt and debris.

Occasional exfoliation will help to remove dead skin cells and unblock pores to leave skin soft and smooth.

Why does my skin feel greasy?

Your skin’s sebaceous glands produce sebum, a natural oil that helps to keep skin soft, supple and healthy. Emotional or external triggers – stress, stimulants, hormones, oil-stripping products and even the weather – can make the glands overproduce oil at times.

These glands are more concentrated on your forehead, nose and chin. A shiny T-zone with dry cheeks is not unusual.

My skin always seems dry when I am in a cold environment, but greasy when it's hot. What skincare regime should I follow?

Your skin’s moisture requirements increase in a colder environment, as the conditions can make your skin dry. It is recommended you use richer moisturisers in such an environment to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised.

Try Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser and Kind to Skin Vital Vitamin Night Cream to keep your skin soft and supple and free of dry patches.

Skincare

I use soap and water to wash my face day and night, should I be using a specific cleanser?

Unless the soap is a specific cleansing bar soap, you shouldn’t use soap to wash your face, as soap designed for use on your body may be too harsh for sensitive skin. Try to use a Simple Skincare cleanser that is suitable for your skin type.

Visit our Product Recommender to find a product that’s right for you.

There are so many different types of cleanser available now, how do I know which one to use?

Think about your skin type and how much time you have to spend on your skincare regime. Cleansing wipes, gels, washes and foams are ideal for a fast morning cleanse. Washes are also well-suited to normal and oily skin types. Cream cleansers are great if you have dry skin as they both moisturise and cleanse. Simple Skincare has a range of cleansers to suit everyone.

I don't have time to cleanse my face thoroughly. What do you suggest?

It is important to cleanse your skin daily so it is free from pore-clogging grime and grease. Of course, to make things easier for you, you can use Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes for an effective and quick solution.

It’s perfect, it’s convenient to use when you’re on holiday, in a cab, at a gym, at a club or wherever your exciting lifestyle takes you.

I don't wear make-up, is it still necessary to cleanse my skin twice a day?

Even if you don’t wear make-up, your skin is still faced with pollution, dust and bacteria throughout the day. Cleansing is therefore a vital part of your daily skincare regime as it rids the skin of impurities. For a quick and convenient cleanse, try Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes

Should I use a specific eye make-up remover or can I just use my usual cleanser or cleansing wipes?

You can just use cleanser or wipes to remove make-up. However, as eye make-up remover is specifically formulated to remove mascara, it is more effective. Kind to Eyes Eye Make-up Remover is a gentle and effective formula, which will remove even waterproof mascara.

Will not removing my make-up do my skin any harm?

Night time is when your skin begins its renewal process. Sleeping with make-up on can cause blemishes and premature signs of ageing. Your skin needs to breathe at night but make-up clogs your pores, which can cause blackheads and breakouts.

If you can’t manage to cleanse, tone and moisturise, try leaving a pack of Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes by the side of your bed so that you can quickly wipe away impurities in seconds before you go to sleep.

Is it necessary to use a toner after cleansing if I don't have spots?

Yes, toner removes the last traces of make-up and dirt. It is a treatment in its own right, which conditions the skin and prepares it for other skincare treatments.

Kind to Skin Soothing Facial Toner is the perfect finish to your cleansing routine. Alcohol-free and pH balanced, it refreshes your skin without drying.

Why do I need a moisturiser?

Using a moisturiser will stop your skin from drying out by stepping up oil production. For oily and acne-prone skin, use oil-free moisturisers such as Clear Skin Oil Balancing Moisturiser, so you won’t add more oil to the problem.

Do I need to buy a day and a night cream, or can I just use a day moisturiser for both day and night moisturising?

The skin has time to relax at night and the regeneration process of cell division occurs to a greater extent at night than during the day.

When should I start to use eye creams?

The skin around the eyes is delicate and thin. This is usually the first place that you develop fine lines and wrinkles.
It is recommended you start using eye creams in your mid twenties, as it is easier to prevent the lines from occurring than it is to treat them once they have appeared.

Regeneration Age Resisting Eye Cream contains Green Tea, a natural anti-oxidant with Oat Beta Glucan to help stimulate the skin’s immune system, reinforcing its ability to renew itself.
It also contains Sodium Hyaluronate and Mushroom Extract to help firm and reduce puffiness around the eyes; natural Ginkgo Biloba; and, Pro-Vitamin B5 to help repair, protect and strengthen the skin around the delicate eye area throughout the day.

I try to cleanse, tone and moisturise as often as I can, sometimes up to five times a day. Is this okay for my skin?

It is essential to cleanse your skin daily to clear away dirt and bacteria. However, you’re overdoing it. Cleansing changes your skin’s balance with the environment by stripping protective oils that act as natural barriers to the elements.

Overuse of skincare products may bring about sensitive skin or cause your skin to have breakouts. To avoid this happening, cleanse twice a day using a gentle cleanser such as Kind to Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion.
